National Audit Office

Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1

Consultant : Aecom + MTT
Contractor : MITIE

Constructed in 1938 on the east side of Buckingham Palace Road, the National Audit Office HQ is an impressive Art Deco, Grade 2 listed building. Originally the London Terminal for Imperial Airways.

The building has recently undergone a £60M restoration and refurbishment project to provide over 15,000m2 of high grade office space to over 750 NAO employees.

The building services are a mixture of chilled beams, fan coil units, perimeter heating circuits and ventilation plant., together with main plant systems in ten different plant room locations.

For the control element of this Design & Build contract, MITIE chose Total Control. Our works were almost £800K in value and took 65-weeks to complete. We designed, supplied and installed an Alerton BACnet open protocol BMS system.

Since handover both MITIE and Total Control have been involved in managing and maintaining the building. To meet the National Audit Office’s CRC and energy efficiency objectives a web-based Optergy aM&T system has been added to the BACnet BMS. Using Optergy over 100 utility meters are now regularly monitored, recorded and analysed by the NOA, supported by our Total Control Energy division
