Orbis Energy

Ness Point, Felixstowe

Consultant : Pick Everard
Contractor : Inviron Mechanical

OrbisEnergy at Ness Point, Lowestoft is more than just a commercial office block. It is the most easterly building in the UK and it stands next to ‘Gulliver’ the UK’s largest wind turbine at a height of 126m.

OrbisEnergy is owned by Suffolk County Council and is East Anglia’s flagship premises for businesses involved in offshore wind, wave and tidal technologies.

For energy efficiency OrbisEnergy has earned it’s designers, Pick Everard, the International Green Apple award for 2009. It is home to 38 small to medium-sized businesses and provides them each with their own office and workshop space. The five-storey building has a striking glass atrium and also includes shared conference and exhibition facilities.

The building services are cutting edge with many energy saving features. For example: biomass boiler, solar energy, rain water harvesting and heat reclaim. Also, occupancy integration between the Optergy BACnet BMS and a KNX intelligent lighting system, means that presents detection, to turn on lighting, also holds off the HVAC in each tenantable space until they are confirmed to be in use. The BMS is web accessible and monitors and records all site utility meters.
