Orbis Energy - Ness Point, Felixstowe

Orbis Energy at Ness Point, Lowerstoft was more than just a commercial block. It was the most easterly building in the UK and it stood next to 'Gulliver' - the UK's largest wind turbine at the time, with a height of 126m.

OrbisEnergy was owned by Suffolk County Council and was East Anglia's flagship premises for business involved in offshore wind, wave and tidal technologies.

For energy efficiency, OrbisEnergy earned its designers, Pick Everard, the International Green Apple award for 2009. It was home to 38 small to medium-sized business and provided them each with their own office and workshop space. The 5-storey building had a striking glass atrium and also includes shared conference and exhibition facilities.

The building services were cutting-edge for that time with many energy-saving features. For example; biomass boiler, solar energy, rain water harvesting and heat reclaim. Also, occupancy integration between the Optergy BACnet BMS and KNX intelligent lighting system, allowed for detection, to turn on lighting and also hold off the HVAC in each tenantable space until they are confirmed to be in use. The BMS was web accessible and monitored and recorded all site utility meters.
